Our story: The Allenby legacy
Allenby Coach Hire began in 1980 with John Dewberry’s father, a coach mechanic and driver who laid our foundation. Starting humbly with a Ford Transit minibus and Granada car, we operated taxi services and parcel deliveries in the early days. The family legacy later deepened when John merged with his father’s operations.
From sole trader beginnings, we’ve grown into a respected limited company serving Kent and the Southeast for over four decades. The name “Allenby” comes from Allenby Road, where John’s father lived – a tribute to our roots. We’ve grown, but our ethos remains grounded and unchanged: traditional values, modern reliability.
Fun fact: John has preserved his father’s original telephone number, over the years!

John Dewberry
Managing Director
John has been the driving force of Allenby Coach Hire for over 43 years. No two days are ever the same for him. Whether it’s solving challenges on the spot or finding new ways to make customers’ journeys special, John thrives on the variety his role brings. Away from the office, John is a proud dad cheering on his son and daughter in hockey and cricket, a Bromley FC season ticket holder, and a classic car enthusiast who lovingly maintains Emma (a 1955 Austin A30) and Warwick (a 1973 MG Midget). His energy and enthusiasm on and off the job inspire the whole team.
Pam Greig
Administrative Manager
Pam has been with Allenby Coach Hire for 6 years and is the heart of the office. She oversees workloads, plans day trips, and makes sure every detail is just right. Known for her organisation and forward-thinking, Pam ensures coaches are booked, payments are processed, and everything runs to plan. When she’s not streamlining operations, you’ll often find her enjoying the open road herself, showing off her classic car at events across the region.
Gioconda Chillman
Administrative Assistant
Gi joined the team 2 years ago and is often the first point of contact for customers. From answering calls and emails to managing payments and bookings, she handles it all with warmth and efficiency. Her strengths in communication and multitasking keep the busy office running smoothly, even on days filled with last-minute changes. When she’s off the clock, Gi enjoys baking, painting, and setting out to explore new places.

Barry has been driving with Allenby for 18 years, making passenger safety and comfort his top priority. His role is about more than just driving; it’s about creating a positive experience for everyone on board, while keeping the coaches in top condition through regular checks. When he’s not behind the wheel, he spends time with his family, enjoys holidays, follows sports, and loves eating out.

Choosing Allenby for your travels: What to expect
We operate three actual coach sizes: a 22-seater, a 37-seater, and a 39-seater. The 37 and 39-seaters are identical apart from the two extra seats. However, to cater to diverse group needs and offer competitive pricing, we market these as five different seating capacities: 16, 22, 33, 37, 39.
